Using SlipStream Accelerator (Mac OS X)
|
|
The accelerator can be switched on and off at will during an online session. To activate your accelerator, click the SlipStream icon... to turn it off, close the SlipStream window.

The Status Tab:
SlipStream Accelerator does not start up automatically, that's up to you. You can startup SlipStream before dialing-up or after or whenever.
A typical use would be to dial-up, start SlipStream and then open your browser, of course, if you have you system set to automatically dial-up whenever you open your browser then you would start SlipStream after starting your browser... or before...
It's all really a matter of personal style, it will work most any way.
Once you start downloading information, the "Waiting for traffic" status will be replaced with "Accelerator is ON". |

The Images Tab:
Most of the techniques used by SlipStream to speed up data transfers are automated and don't have user controls to modify the compression, with the exception of Images.
You can squeeze extra speed out of SlipStream by downloading lower quality versions of images. The degraded quality of these images is usually of no concern unless you are Ansel Adams or someone like him! The speed increase on the other hand is noticeable. The best thing is to play around with it and see what you like. |

The Connection Tab:
This is in essence where you would go to change your password for SlipStream if you needed to do that.
There is an Advanced... button you can click, but look, don't touch. Messing up those pre-sets will guarantee that SlipStream will not work. |

The Connection Tab(redux):
O.K., so here's what is behind that Advanced... button, Typical network type parameters. This is being shown in these instructions so that if you screw up these settings (which you shouldn't touch in the first place), you would have a copy of how they should actually be in order to restore them. |

The Update Tab:
What can I say about this feature rich tab. There is not much to do here, I can't imagine why anyone would uncheck the revision updates notification. Maybe this tab is here to balance out the look of the four tab design they have going and they had to put something in here to justify it... who knows? |
